This was my daughter's (3 1/2 yrs old) first pet.
Use dirt or aspen shavings for substrate. I change it about once a month. Microwave the substrate before throwing it out to kill any eggs. These animals are considered pests. In some states they are illegal to keep.
I put a fabric screen under the lid to prevent newborn sticks from escaping.
My Day Geckos refuse to eat the stick insects, so they are just pets.
Mist every 1-2 days. If you don't mist often, the eggs will not hatch.
Feed rose leaves and/or leaves from the Blackberry family of plants.
For a fancier setup, use a glass tank or a screen cage.
